Anti-Bullying Photography Series: Part 3

According to stopbullying.gov, the most prevalent form of bullying is verbal and social. 44.2 % of kids experience name calling and 43.3 % experience teasing. Samantha Kelley, my next model for the anti-bullying project experienced such bullying in school. This is what she had to say about it:

“I honestly didn't wanna do this because I don't feel like my bullying experience was as bad as others, but then I realized all bullying needs to be talked about. I didn't have it too rough but I did get food thrown at me one day and I got called names here and there. It does get better!”

I’m glad Samantha decided to do the project with me because bullying people for their weight is very common and needs to stop. Even the media and Hollywood think it’s ok to make fun of people for being overweight.

We have to let our children know that no matter what, it is not ok to make fun of others for their weight or any other physical attribute, even if they see actors and other adults doing it. We all need to set the right example. Children need to know that they are loved no matter their size. That they are worthy of love and respect. That their pants size doesn’t determine their worth. We all need to know this.
